New Rental Laws

Originally due to come into effect on 1 July 2020, the start of the Residential Tenancies Amendment Act 2018 was delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  While some of the changes have already commenced such as pets in rental properties and rent increases limited to once a year, the remaining reforms (132 in total) commenced from 29 March 2021

The changes to the law clarify the rights and responsibilities of renters (previously known as tenants) and rental providers (previously known as landlords) – from before a rental agreement is signed until after the agreement ends.

We have prepared a library of short videos below on some of the notable reforms.
